Being cultured also means having a wide musical background. While learning the theory behind music can be a little dry, I recently stumbled upon a link to an ear training web site:

This site allows you to become familiar with how far apart two notes are in a song. And hopefully become so proficient that you can learn to play or sing songs right after hearing them.
This site has rekindled my love of learning music and theory. I’m about to hit the piano right now.
